Westfront-Astührung Henry Collar Sweater
The Henry collar sweater originated from the standard-issue undershirt worn by the German military during World War II. Its signature collarless design, paired with a Y-shaped semi-placket front fastened with 2 to 6 buttons, allowed for quick donning and removal on the battlefield while providing a snug, windproof fit around the neck.
Crafted from wool-blend knit, this sweater was particularly suited to Europe's temperate oceanic climate. On the damp and chilly Western Front, soldiers often wore it as an inner layer beneath their uniforms—maintaining body heat without adding bulk around the collar. Its prototype was commonly seen during autumn and winter campaigns in Northern France and the Low Countries, retaining the functional essence of military attire while significantly improving wearing comfort.
